The names listed with the varieties depicted reflect our most recent understanding of variety name.

Identification and naming of historical fruit varieties is complicated and often subject to ongoing research and discussion.

Many old varieties are only known by their local or regional names. However, thanks to extensive and in many cases still unfinished research, we have found the originally assigned or used name of many varieties, as well as their possible origin.
Where this is not yet the case, we have reproduced their (acc)essenames by adding ‘acc.

The apple varieties shown are mostly historical varieties. A considerable number of them were already more or less assumed to have disappeared.
