Identification and naming of historical fruit varieties is complicated and often still subject to extensive discussion.

Many old pear varieties are only known by their local or regional names. However, thanks to extensive and in many cases still unfinished research, we finally found the possible origin and originally assigned or used name of many varieties.

We indicate these by the varieties in question as geographical synonyms, which we refer to as ‘geonyms’.

The display pear varieties represent in majority historical varieties that in many cases were already assumed to have disappeared.
